Game Recap

Tyree is one of several weapons in Dale’s new Wing-T attack. The Knights spread the ball among Tyree, Elijah Burns, Collin Holmes and others and finished with 350 yards rushing.

On the other side of the ball, Dale limited the Titans to 30 yards rushing and 51 passing and got interceptions from lineman Zach Jacobs and defensive back Kelan Lewis. Lewis’ interception set up Tyree’s TD just before the half.

Punter Garrett Graves helped set up two safeties by pinning Cosby deep.

Tucker said he was happy with how Dale’s defensive unit responded after losing defensive leader Devonte Chandler. The senior linebacker tore his ACL in a scrimmage against Highland Springs and is out for the season.

“We think the defense will be the strength of our team early on,” he said. “As the offense grows and continues to get a little bit older, and (quarterback) John Pierce gets more and more starts, we’ll get better and better each week.”

One area Tucker wants to see Dale get better at — quickly — is penalties.

“The one thing I’m disappointed with is 17 penalties,” he said. “We play Bird next week, and we can’t afford five penalties. We’ve got to play a good, clean game.”
